Your character begins weaving a deliberately over-bright, unstable spell matrix. The spell has no effect on creatures that ignore it, but it looks like the opening movements of a dangerous spell.

When you cast this spell, each creature that can perceive the casting and could attempt a counterspell may immediately make a Knowledge (Arcana) check against DC 20 + your caster level. This check does not use an action. On a success, the creature identifies the spell as Lesser Counterspell Snare and knows it is harmless. On a failure, the creature only identifies it as a serious 4th-level or stronger magical threat.

A creature may attempt to counterspell Lesser Counterspell Snare as normal. Whether that attempt succeeds or fails, the counterspell, spell slot, immediate action, and any other resources used in the attempt are expended normally. Lesser Counterspell Snare produces no other effect.
